Wide-5 is a special division of Fosseway Performance ltd. This has been established to cater for the specific needs of the classic air-cooled VW and Porsche 356 models. However, in reality, Fosseway Performance owes its existence to the classic VW’s of the 60’s and 70’s because this is where I first became addicted to all things automotive. My love of cars has blossomed into Fosseway Performance which has quickly become one of the leading suppliers of upgrades to classic marques such as Jaguar, Jensen, Daimler and Aston Martin. We are even supplying the radiators for the E-Type lightweight racing cars being built by Jaguar Heritage but my first car, a marina blue 1300 Beetle, was where it all began.
At the age of 16 my Beetle was the center of my universe. For three years I lived in the garage whilst it was painstakingly rebuilt on a very limited budget. A Saturday job at VeeWee helped pay for things and the trade discount was a massive help. Eventually after a lot of effort my Beetle emerged from the garage and was the envy of all my friends. Spurred on by this, they all acquired Beetles as well and a small cluster of air-cooled VW’s began to form. When I left home to go to college my brother stepped into my shoes at VeeWe and the cycle began again when he also got hold of a 1974 Beetle.
Both my brother and I still have air-cooled VW’s some 30 years later and they don’t look like they will be leaving soon…..I suppose some addictions are hard to cure.
